Training Wheels are for Training

It is a dangerous place to be out in the earth with no real guide to righteousness but being able to grasp what the Holy Spirit is saying. It is a safe but frequently ineffective place to stay where my strength is the training wheels I started my journey with Jesus by using – the rules and the religion. I cannot be part of the process of proclaiming the Kingdom of Jesus to the ends of the earth by staying safe. Sometimes, the dangers ahead of us will be clear threats – Paul wrote that he knew that his future was encumbered with chains and afflictions (Acts 20:22-25).

The dangers on days are simply that we will not get some things right. Peter was a fisherman his whole life until he met Jesus. When Jesus was raised from the grave but not yet raised from the earth, He met with His people many times. At other times during that period, He was not visibly present. During one of the apparent absences, Peter decided to go fishing. The rest of the fishermen joined him. From whatever time they began until daybreak the next day, they tried to catch fish, but they were unsuccessful.

Jesus called out to them from the shore, asking about their catch. No fish, all night. He instructed them to throw their net again, and told them which side of the boat to fish on. The net was suddenly filled with too many fish to haul in (John 21:1-14).

Was Peter’s decision to go fishing good, or was it evil? Was it right, or was it wrong? My suggestion is that none of those four labels fit. It was not righteous. What Jesus instructs us to will be righteousness. It may not make sense on days. I may not be able to explain it or to justify it to my friends or family members on days.

What He says to do is righteous, though. He thinks you are able to get it and walk in it. He invented having faith. His faith is able to make you able. Be strong and courageous in what He sends you to. He is with you. He trusts you.

Be righteous, because He is.
