Being Anchored
Being “anchored” in our lives can mean good things and bad things.
Apologists want us to be anchored in good theology. Investors want us to be anchored in good stocks. Football coaches want us to be anchored in the fundamentals. Church leaders want us to be anchored in a good church.
When the sailors who were with Paul in a storm in the Mediterranean Sea were beginning to give up on hope of living through the storm, they left their anchor at the bottom, and threw the ship’s tackle into the sea with it.
When the sailors who were with Jonah in a storm in the Mediterranean realized that his presence was an anchor that was going to sink them, they threw him into the sea.
When you want to sit still in a boat, you drop the anchor. When you want to move in a boat, you raise the anchor. When Jesus tells you to set sail, you can’t set sail and drop anchor at the same time. His breath in your sail is your anchor. He might let you hold the rudder, but you either need to hoist the anchor or cut the rope to it. A ship that never leaves harbor is a casino…
