Caught up With the Spirit

I must admit that I never sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in any tangible or proximate way.

Still, I never stop acknowledging His presence. That ongoing interaction, whether with any sense of its reality or not, causes me to be more sensitive to His voice. I was struck recently by something like this in human terms –

I traveled about 8 hours round-trip to spend a few hours with someone I love. Because we are frequently in communication, there were a few times during our short visit when we were not in conversation. Our conversation was current, because it was frequent. The silent minutes we spent were just enjoying the pleasure of being in the same vehicle instead of being separated by many state lines. We were caught up.

While traveling for that visit, I was able to spend a few hours with someone else I love. Because our visits are not frequent, we spent 5 hours or so bringing each other up on current events in our lives. Each minute was a bit more influenced by the stress of trying to connect and get news than by just enjoying each other’s interaction. It was wonderful, but it included more work to re-establish the proximity and intimacy.

Stay in communication with the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Don’t get behind on the conversation with the One Who can lead all your steps toward righteousness and Life.
