Don’t Hang Up
Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving.
(Colossians 4:2 Holman Christian Standard Bible ©®)
Rejoice always!
Pray constantly.
Give thanks in everything,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Holman Christian Standard Bible ©®)
There is never a time once you become a believer at which you are separated from your Savior. It is possible to be separated from His provision or protection by refusing to be in the place or condition that indicate obedience to His will, but He will never leave nor forsake you.
Since He is always present with us, it is inappropriate to leave Him out of our conversations and even our thoughts. In our culture, it is rude to ignore someone who is present in a room in which a discussion is happening. We ignore Jesus almost constantly, though. We have been taught that He is far away on business, and we must have a religious person conduct an “invocation” to influence Him to come join us when we gather.
Suppose we never stopped considering His presence and the value of His influence in every conversation or thought. Suppose, when we are developing a plan, we always include Him in the process, asking Him for oversight and wisdom and revelation. Suppose that we listened for His answers and received them.
At any moment, it is proper to believe that He is present, and therefore that He is listening and wants to be engaged with us in conversation by His Spirit. It doesn’t resemble a phone conversation – at the end, we bid welfare and hang up and resume what we were doing or go on to the next thing.
Never hang up.
