In The Beginning, God
As a bit of encouragement regarding believing “In the beginning, God created…”, in terms of the odds of the universe having done it all by herself:
- There are 20 amino acids
- In a protein chain (basic data-holding entity for producing life), the acids are found in different combinations, and in different orders, for different proteins
- If the “list” ordering the acids is not correct for a useful protein, a protein chain that produces life doesn’t happen
- The data storage is accomplished by the proper accumulation of atoms, not just the acids.
- A very simple protein molecule called ribosome has 250,000 atoms.
- The possible number of sequences in which those atoms could be ordered is about 10162,221
- The very unlikely accidental production of that exact sequence would then have to be in proximity of its exact duplicate, which, beyond the above-mentioned odds against existence of the first molecule, would add an unlikelihood of 1 in 102,956
- That’s a protein molecule. The additional, unimaginable complexities of all the appropriate different proteins first finding a way to build a cell wall in which they could function, and then accidentally accumulating into functioning eyes, kidneys, thyroids, etc, etc, etc, finalizing in a brain that can manage philosophy, science and ethics are far beyond possible, by trillions of negative odds
Some recent science, which would have changed Darwin’s mind if it had been available to him, can be found at http://darwinsmaths.com/ , where this quote can be found, also:
“As someone once memorably noted, Christianity is not about following lists of “do’s” or “don’ts” so much as embracing a single “done” – what God has already completed for each one of us. It is not a gift earned – rather a gift worn and lived out.”
