Learning From Jesus

We can learn much from Jesus about how to accomplish our ministries by looking at how He accomplished His. This is partly true because while He was doing ministry in the earth, He used the same resources that He has made available to us.

We can’t do any supernatural ministry apart from the Holy Spirit gifting us with power to do it. “The Son is not able to do anything on His own” (John 5:19). He created an environment in which He would be limited as we are, and did much ministry in it. Another limit He allowed to affect His ministry was the doubts of people who were nearby (Mark 6:5).

To only look at His limits would be inappropriate, though. Using the limits to acknowledge that He put Himself in our shoes should also encourage us to acknowledge that with regard to miracles He also put Himself in our shoes. If you were to look at the power He gave to the 12 and decide that Roman Mythology is true, and that no one after the first apostles could do miracles, you would have to explain the power the 70 were given in the narrative of Luke (chapter 10). You would also have to decide not to believe thousands of testimonies through the ages and today. Not just “these days,” but “today.” Today, some people did some miracles in the name of Jesus somewhere.

My suggestion, therefore, is go be really awesome. Expect it to be normal that whether you get to do any miracles or not, you should be seeing some.
