Draw Near and Live

Now there have been many other priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office. But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.

Such a high priest truly befits us—One who is holy, innocent, undefiled, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Drawing near to a fire when you are cold is comforting. Being in the middle of a house that is on fire is terrorizing. A burning bush is a curiosity. A burning heart is life-changing. Drawing near to Yahweh is not even possible apart from being drawn to that blessed place by Jesus. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, though, “When Christ calls a man, He bids him, ‘Come and die.’”

There is no place nor source of life but our Father. Yet, it will cost us our lives to draw near and receive His.

It is a wonderful idea. Draw near. Be awesome. Live.
