Boredom and Coasting
How much of what you do today will be any different from what you did the same day last week? How much will really require that you have to reason through an issue? Even deeper – how much will you feel that you need to pray for direction in if you expect to get it right?
Most of what we do can probably be considered “coasting;” it’s downhill, can be done in our sleep, or it’s uphill, just repetitious labor. Sometimes, this boring loop may be caused by the fact that we are not expecting anything important to happen, so we are not listening or looking for opportunities. That could mean we walk past a burning bush without noticing.
“Looking” and “listening” may amount to “asking.” Bringing every next activity or decision or pause to the Holy Spirit in prayer with a request for His influence and direction could result in revelation that completely changes the situation and its results, for yourself and/or someone else.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.
Don’t consider yourself to be wise;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
This will be healing for your body
and strengthening for your bones.
