Defending my Faith

My father was born into a family that valued Freemasonry. He once complained that he would have been a Shriner but it was too expensive. Very late in his life I had the freedom to show him in some books by Freemasons and Shriners that their teachings were very contrary to Scripture and to the Lordship of Jesus and His works of salvation. When he saw truth that had been hidden from him as a low-level member of the organization, he asked Jesus to forgive him for having agreed with the curses and false teachings he had surrendered to by joining in the Masonic rituals he had been in.

He didn’t understand the books nor the Scriptures well enough to argue with Freemasons’ leaders or with Shriners, so he did not publicly renounce his relationship with their practices or twisted teachings. Peter advised the people he wrote a letter to that they should always be ready to defend their hope (1 Peter 3:13-16).

It doesn’t matter that I cannot do any better than to declare that I believe something because the Spirit has led me to. I am not responsible for changing anyone’s mind. I am just responsible for walking in the light that I have received. If someone wants to know why I believe it is light, I’ll do my best. Not being able to explain it does not free me from the responsibility to live it.

Be awesome. Share your experiences and live what you believe. Some will be helped by just that, and ask how they can enjoy it too.
