Filled Again With Power

The followers of Jesus who saw Him rise from the earth one day into the clouds were told by Him to wait in Jerusalem so they would receive power, and then to bear witness to Him to the ends of the earth. They were already His followers. They received further blessing by His Spirit to receive power to follow.

While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

“No,” they told him, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

“Then with what baptism were you baptized?” he asked them.

“With John’s baptism,” they replied.

Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak with other languages and to prophesy. Now there were about 12 men in all.

Paul found believers in Ephesus who were disciples of Jesus who had not heard there was an empowerment that could come to them by being filled with the Spirit of Jesus. When they heard about it, they received it and received further power to be His disciples.

In Acts chapter 4, believers who had been baptized with the Spirit of Jesus in chapter 2 were baptized again. Fill us afresh right now, Lord Jesus, with Your Spirit and Your power. Thank You!
