If Your Canvas is too Small

We will not always do well if our measure of promotion and reward comes from the structure of corporations and denominations and military. We will likely be discouraged and lost, in fact. If you want to paint a big picture you need a big canvas to paint it on.

If our measures are able to encompass eternity and martyrdom and fellowship that is outside the camp and the norm and the accepted, we have begun to have space for the project of life in Christ. I may be insulted and robbed and lied to and lied about and heart broken and exhausted and even murdered, but my responses to all this can manifest heaven today and prepare me for an eternity there that is more than blessed and more than compensation for my temporary, light afflictions here.

I cannot fail to ask what I must do in response to a broken-down truck or leaking toilet or flooded washer or illness or any other threat or harm and expect to do well. I am ridiculous. I am unimaginably short-sighted. Easily offended. Totally lacking in self-confidence. At least – I am those things until I ask the Spirit what to do. Then, I am a genius. I am unoffendable. I am filled with joy and faith and love and the rest of Who Jesus is. I am awesome when He is my strength.

You are, too. Ask Him what’s next every few minutes for the rest of your life. I am looking forward to watching it.
