Fearing Hell is Poor Motivation

Contemporary Roman Mythology has influenced many generations directly and through the daughters of the church of Rome with great fear of hell. Even after being born of Yahweh, victims continue to fear the lake of fire up to their last breath. Popes created the fear factor to keep their subjects dependent on them for salvation. You need one of their priests to protect you from damnation (myth). The subsequent motivations through denominations that promote some of the Roman myths seem to be simply fear reproducing fear. Someone who is afraid will attempt to make you afraid for your own good. Or not.

Based on the revelation John saw, the judgment that relates to the lake of fire will have one “yes” or “no” question to be answered. Your answer will put you in the lake of fire or keep you out of it. The question will be, “Is your name written in the book of life?” (Revelation 20:15). Before the book of life judgement, everyone: believer, unbeliever, saint, sinner, king, queen, peasant, 1st century, 21st century; all are judged according to their works (Revelation 20:13). The works judgment is separate from the life judgement. The second death (the lake of fire) has no power over you if you have been born of Yahweh, and not just of your natural parents.

So the judgements are basically whether you are alive or dead, and what you did with the life you had on the earth, without regard for whether you proceed into eternity either alive or dead. This means that you can stop fearing hell if you have been born of the Lord. It also means that you need different motivation for living a valuable life if that is what has been driving you up to this point.

I recommend that you frequently imagine a nail-scarred hand reaching out to you to receive a return on an investment that has been made in your life. Be desperate to have something to give back based on your determination to live a life that blessed the name of the One Who loves you and sent you on mission. I pray over your life that you will have much to bring your King in that day, and that you will see great joy on His face when He says, “Well done!” to you.
