Accurate Measurements

I can’t measure my week or my years or my life by what I have accomplished. I can only honestly measure the value of my times based on the answer to the question, “Did I do what I was told to do?”

That means that if I can’t really list much that I have succeeded in, but can truly say that I did what I was told, even if the fruit seems meager, I have done better than if I started 12 ministries that changed many people’s lives, but did not do what Jesus ordained me to do.

There are times when a beggar asks you for money, and you don’t have enough to share. There are times when beggars beg and you have extra beyond your responsibilities at the moment. The amount of money that is in your pocket is not the place to find the answer to the question, “What to do, Lord?” When you have the money, He may tell you not to give it, because He wants the next person to learn a lesson in generosity. When you don’t have enough, He may tell you to give it anyway, because He is planning to surprise you with a gift through another believer.

I fear that I annoy many people who ask me for advice and receive the answer, “Ask the Spirit.” Learning to hear His voice and obey it are much more valuable than getting the right answer the easy way, by someone else’s faith. If I have an answer, I give it. If I don’t, I expect the Spirit to have it and to share it.

Ask the Spirit. Listen. Obey. Be awesome.
