New Invitations

Then he said to me, “Write: Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!” He also said to me, “These words of God are true.” (Revelation 19:9 HCSB ©®)

I’m wondering if believers in the United States learned anything new to invite people to in 2020. They couldn’t use their favorite invitation, which was “to church.” Even if people accept an invitation to church, they have quite a few hurdles to clear before they might get a clear invitation to Jesus.

If we start with an invitation to Jesus, as a King Who saves, and teach them to seek Him as a King in their lives, the rest of the package – the fellowship, the new birth, the provision, the information, the protection, the purpose, the understanding – all is close to being found.

One of my favorite evangelists likes to ask people, “Has Jesus managed to save you yet?” As they stammer to come up with an answer to such a strange question, he reminds them that He has invited them – every time they wanted a purposeful life, every time they felt bad for some failure – and that no one can come to Him unless He is drawing them to come.

“Don’t ignore the next time He invites you!” is his last word to them before he turns to walk away. The ones who follow him with a, “Hey! Wait a minute!” are being invited by the Spirit, so he turns and joins in the invitation.
