Rulers and Inches

I have several versions of a sliver of wood called a “yardstick.” Once I had a stick that was a little different: it was called a “meterstick.” When this type of device is only 12 inches long, it is not called a “footstick,” though. It is then a “ruler.” These sticks are used to enforce rules, and to judge the degree of compliance with the rules. The rules in question are related to measure of length.

The little one is a “ruler.” We can carry one of those around and have the answer about some of our rules. The kind of ruler we need, though, is One Who is the Cornerstone, by which all things can be measured. His thoughts and instructions never need to be checked for accuracy.

The mob before Pilate was deceived into asking for Barabbas (“son of the father”) rather than Yeshua (“Son of The Father”). We don’t need rules. We need to be like John, resting our heads on the heart of the Ruler. We need to be so under His influence that our thoughts and actions are fulfillments of His desires.

I also saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had won the victory from the beast, his image, and the number of his name, were standing on the sea of glass with harps from God. They sang the song of God’s servant Moses, and the song of the Lamb:
Great and awe-inspiring are Your works, Lord God, the Almighty;
righteous and true are Your ways, King of the Nations.
Lord, who will not fear and glorify Your name?
Because You alone are holy,
because all the nations will come and worship before You,
because Your righteous acts have been revealed.
