For Works, Not By Works

Most people want to live a life that has meaning and purpose. Some people want it badly enough to invest heavily in preparation for the fulfilment of some project or work that matters, even to the point of 15 years of preparation in some cases. Generally, only the people who are playing a “long game” with regard to their intentions and the work they invest to realize those intentions are going to succeed.

The likelihood of humanity picking us for some great thing is unlikely. On rare days, a rare teacher may recognize some great potential in some child and set them on a track that will prepare them for a wonderful opportunity, but most people are left to wander in mediocrity by most leadership.

That is not your case, though. Even though you did not choose Jesus, He did choose you. He has set you in place with regard to ancestry, resources, preparation, salvation, and with being filled by His Spirit so that something He chose to appoint you to before there was dirt could come to pass (John 15:16). He has worked in you so that He can work through you. You are His workmanship, so that your workmanship can make an impact in some way in the world He created.

For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are His creation—created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.

Walk in them!
