Strike Your Arrows on the Ground

Then Elisha said, “Take the arrows!” So he took them, and he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground!” So he struck the ground three times and stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times. Then you would have struck down Aram until you had put an end to them, but now you will only strike down Aram three times.” Then Elisha died and was buried.

Why didn’t Elisha inform the king of the power of the ground striking, and the consequences of limiting the number of strikes?

The longer I live, the longer the list grows of times when I stumbled into being led by the Spirit of God to do something the right way. Many of the times, I sensed no leading. Many times, the actual consequences were much greater than I guessed or noticed during the moments of making a decision.

Every moment could be life-changing, for me or for someone whose welfare depends on my success at being led by the Spirit. Try not to make any decisions or actions without acknowledging the Spirit of God and His influence. Seek the King and His dominion and righteousness before all things. Be awesome. On days, be surprised.
