Working Hard

I have come to believe that the hardest working people in the earth are those who have rights and those who have jealousy.

When I live in a place where I must judge every event based on whether I have been defrauded or misjudged or offended, I will never find an end to the work I must perform to achieve justice. When I live in a place where all of my possessions and relationships and my work must be judged by comparing them to yours, I will never find an end to the work I must perform to attain equality with you.

I have also come to believe that the people who rest the best are those who take no responsibility for their lives, and those who have found the burdens and yokes that Jesus has chosen for them to bear.

The irresponsible don’t care about how things turn out and have someone to blame every difficulty on. They have learned how to use the narrative of their pasts to manipulate others to take responsibility for things they would otherwise be responsible for. Those who have surrendered to the direction of Jesus in their lives as a King are able to enjoy an easy yoke, a light burden, and genuine rest.

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
