Character in Private

Your behavior, your attitude, your values system and your desires are measurable indicators. What they indicate includes whether you are more influenced by the first list Paul made in chapter 5 of his letter to the congregations in Galatia, or the second list. The first list there he titled, “the works of the flesh.” He called the second list, “the fruit of the Spirit.”

We change some of our cultural practices based on the cultures we spend time with – we may only wear a coat and tie at a funeral or wedding, but not at work or at a friend’s home for dinner. We may not even own a tie. Our language may include much slang when we are with young people, and none when we are visiting our junior high school English teacher or when we are discussing a contract with a rich client at work.

Who are you when no other human is watching or listening? Who are you when you are with people you hope to impress or draw into a relationship?

Who does Jesus want to make you into?
