Righteous Liberty
We have been given great liberty. It is not license to sin, though. It is license from sin.
That doesn’t mean that our liberties won’t be called sin. The more liberty we walk in, the more dangerous we will become to our enemies, and the scarier we might become to our friends. John the Baptizer announced that Jesus was the “Lamb of God, Who will take away the sins of the world,” and “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire,” and “I am not worthy to help Him take His sandals off.” Because Jesus walked in great liberty regarding His interpretation of the Law and the Prophets, though, John began to doubt His identity (Matthew 11:1-3).
Generally, people will accuse you of failure in the place where they believe they have the greatest weakness: honesty, reliability, sex, money, pride, etc… When they do, you will know how to pray for them. To paraphrase Paul, nothing is illegal for us now. Many things are still stupid, though. (1 Corinthians 6:12).
If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law (Galatians 5:18). That is a scary place. Especially for people who don’t trust you. Be scary, but don’t be stupid. Ask the Spirit of Jesus to lead you into the wisdom of righteous freedom!
