Up The Mountain

In Matthew 17:1-9 and Mark 9:2-10, the story is recorded of Jesus taking Peter, James and John up a high mountain. When they got to the top, Jesus was transfigured: His face became as bright as the sun, and His clothes were whiter than any cleaner could clean them. Then, Moses and Elijah appeared with Him and were talking with Him. Peter’s response to the event was, “Rabbi, let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah!” Yahweh’s response to that offer was, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!

When they came down from the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone about what had happened until after He had been raised from the dead. As they wondered about what to think, they got stuck on wondering what “raised from the dead” meant. No one seems to have asked what the point of the “high level” meeting was. Jesus didn’t volunteer anything that got recorded in the two narratives.

What could it be? Gathered together in a supernatural atmosphere of glory, were the main representatives of the Law, the Prophets, and the Kingdom. Father focused the attention of the attendees on the Voice of the Kingdom.
