Heart in Motion

Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord—you serve the Lord Christ.

We will be brought to justice one Day regarding our work in the garden of Yahweh that we call Earth. Imagine two employees: one has a work ethic of excellence and the other’s is lazy. The values of the products of their work will be a contrasting display of quality. I once worked for a chump who fit in the lazy category. If we did some work on a project that wasn’t exactly square or lined up or plumb when we got done, he would look at what I pointed out for a couple of seconds and reply, “Well, you can’t see it from my house…” and load his tools in the truck.

As we enter His Kingdom by doing things He commands our hearts to do, in the ways He charges us to do them, we are laying aside treasure to inherit in His Kingdom. If you find yourself at work in a duty that you believe He wants you to do, but without the internal motivation that can do it with excellence and satisfaction, ask Him to work in your heart to want to do it. It is God Who works in us both to want to do and then to be able to do what makes Him happy (Philippians 2:12-13).

A young man whose class had gone on a field trip to a hospital commented to a nurse who was walking away after tending to a leprosy patient, “I wouldn’t do that for a million dollars!” She replied, “I wouldn’t either. I do it because I know that it pleases Jesus.”
