Looking Forward

What day are you longing for? The last couple of centuries have found most of the church crying for the “sweet by and by.” Most of her hymns have been prayers that her God would snatch her out of the earth and let her lounge in heaven forever. Perhaps the most pitiful of such whinings was “Precious Lord:” “Precious Lord, Take my hand; Lead me on, Help me stand – I’m tired, I quit, You bring in the harvest…”

What is the “day of satisfaction” that is marked on the calendar of your life? Retirement? Marriage? Children out of school? The Lord of heaven and earth has some ideas for you if you haven’t gotten them from Him yet. Ask Him if you’re not sure.

If you do know your current purpose-level assignment, press into it with all of your strength. Obeying Him is loving Him. Loving Him is drawing His strength to obey. He will bring you to the place of success.

You will joyfully draw water
from the springs of salvation,
and on that day you will say:
“Give thanks to the Lord; proclaim His name!
Celebrate His deeds among the peoples.
Declare that His name is exalted.
Sing to the Lord, for He has done glorious things.
Let this be known throughout the earth.
Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion,
for the Holy One of Israel is among you
in His greatness.”
