Women in Ministry

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
“I am He,” Jesus told her, “the One speaking to you.”

(John 4:25-26 Holman Christian Standard Bible ©®)

Jesus announced to a woman from a Samaritan town that He is Messiah. She was expecting Messiah to appear and to set things right regarding the arguments between Samaritans and Jews. Clearly, Jesus waited at the well for this particular woman to appear, because she was chosen to bear good news to the rest of the citizens of her community. Religious jargon for the work she was called to is that she was an “evangelist;” (a “good messenger.”)

While He was sitting at the well, waiting for His appointment with the woman, His disciples were visiting the town where she lived. No one was converted. Perhaps, no one was even informed that Messiah was at their well, passing through the area. When she returned to the town with the news, however, the whole town was informed and wanted to know more. They wanted Jesus to stay with them.

Picking up a few verses from Paul that were perhaps written to a congregation where there were some particularly contentious or annoying women and using them to stop work that Jesus clearly endorsed repeatedly is probably a mistake.
