Rich, Now or Later

1 Timothy 6:17-19

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

If you have more than you need, it would be wise to ask the Spirit why that is. Many of our leaders like to preach on tithing. Not much is said about Jesus’ teaching on giving Him a return on His investments in us. The parable about the talents is in Matthew 25:14-30 and the parable about the minas is in Luke 19:11-27. The servant who gave his master 100% was called “wicked and lazy.” The other servants gave 200%.

Prodigal literally means “insanely or extravagantly generous.” Convert as much of your resources to the currency of eternity as possible. You will be glad you did.

So will the people who benefit from your generosity!
