Yahweh’s Love, Our Mistakes

Yahweh’s instructions to Abraham never seemed to include any inclusion of Lot’s life in the invitations or directions. He was either Abraham’s idea, or Lot just invited himself on an adventure. My guess is that he was tired of chores at his dad’s place.

Repeatedly, Lot was a costly problem for Abraham. When their flocks and herdsmen were quarreling over grass and water, Abraham gave Lot the fertile valleys and took the difficult mountains. When Lot was kidnapped by marauders, Abraham gathered a few local kings and fought a battle to rescue him.

When Yahweh had decided to destroy a city that Lot had been living in long enough to get married and have two daughters, He held up the operation long enough for Lot’s family to be compelled to leave. It was for Abraham’s sake, though. When we add burdens and costs and other mistakes to our lives, our Father works with us to make us able to succeed in spite of ourselves.

Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep—with the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you with all that is good to do His will, working in us what is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
