Seeing and Hearing

Every time I consider the life of Helen Keller, I am struck by the difficulties that had to be overcome by Anne Sullivan, her teacher. Helen became deaf and blind at the age of 19 months. When Anne was brought into her life to train her, Helen could not grasp for a while that every thing had a name, much less that Anne was trying to teach her the names of items that she was placing in one of Helen’s hands while spelling the word in her other hand.

I am similarly struck by the difficulties imposed on representatives of Heaven who are tasked with communicating with us in the hope of influencing and leading us into righteousness and success at our Heavenly assignments. We must not be discouraged or weary of learning how our spirits are touched and informed outside the reach of our physical and mental sight and hearing.

When we learn to listen and speak with our human spirits, we will explode into life, just as Helen did.

The Spirit is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with my understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with my understanding.
