Three Things Yahweh Wanted

In Exodus 19, Yahweh instructed Moses to tell His new nation that He wanted them to be three things to Him.

He wanted a nation of people in the earth that was completely set apart (sanctified) to Him. He wanted them to represent Him and His agendas and His character in the earth. The rest of the earth could find out Who He is by encountering them.

He wanted a kingdom of priests. The writer of Hebrews, declaring many important Jewish ideas and practices that he then declared Jesus to be a fulfillment of or to be superior to, wrote that Jesus was a priest in the order of Melchizedek. This was because He was a King and a Priest. Yahweh wanted all of the citizens of His nation to be priests with authority to represent the needs of the nations around them before the throne of Yahweh the Great King.

He wanted a cegullah. We don’t have a one-word idea like this one in English. Different translations of it into English versions of Exodus and later in 1 Peter 2:9 offer “a people for His possession,” “His own special people,” “a peculiar people,” “a people acquired,” “My own possession,” “a special treasure to Me above all people,” “My own treasure from among all the peoples.” The idea includes a portable treasure that He could keep close to Him, that He acquired Himself.

Peter wrote that we have become those people. Don’t miss opportunities to walk in the identity that represents Him in the earth and your neighbors in Heaven. Accept the truth that you are His treasure. He paid an astonishing price for you when He acquired you. Receive the truth of what He has declared your value to be!
