Wisdom and Foolishness
Solomon was given wisdom beyond measure by Yahweh. While he was young and under the influence of the Spirit of Wisdom, he ruled well and spoke and wrote many wise words, including what became most of the book we call Proverbs. As Nehemiah pointed out of him, though, Solomon “was loved by his God and God made him king over all Israel, yet foreign women drew him into sin.” (Nehemiah 13:26-27)
After the bad influence of many unbelievers he married, he built altars for sacrifices of animals and children to Ashtoreth and Chemosh. He was in this mindset when he wrote Ecclesiastes, which is a fountain of doubt and despair. One of his foolish carnal statements there was that there is nothing ever new.
The writer of Lamentations, in 3:22-24, wrote:
Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
I say: The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in Him.

Yahweh’s mercies are new every day.
Paul wrote to the ekklesias in Rome, they needed to renew their minds (Romans 12:1-2). I don’t think that was a one-time polishing like an old set of car headlights that got milky. I think that is a good idea to press toward frequently.
What would You like to renew in our minds today, Lord Jesus? What new repair would You like to make to our misbeliefs and our lack of ability to understand? Please have Your way and refresh our minds and hearts to be Your place of work and love and life. Thank You!
