Great Expectations
Jesus seemed to expect that His trainees would have spoken to the storm instead of crying out to Him to save them (Mark 4:35-40). Those trainees included men who owned no testaments, old or new. That was irrelevant to most of them, because they could not read.
Why would we presume that He does not expect more from us, rather than less, than He did of them? Generations of theologians have weakened His messages and His invitations and His warnings so that they are safe from great costs socially, politically, and spiritually. Don’t be misled to believe that a day will not come on which it will be a great time to be able to report how far out our necks have been stuck when we met opportunities to do great things.
Be awesome. Mediocrity isn’t just unprofitable – it is costly.
