Knowing Jesus

He went to His hometown and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “How did this wisdom and these miracles come to Him? Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother called Mary, and His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, aren’t they all with us? So where does He get all these things?” And they were offended by Him.

It amazes me that people who thought they knew Jesus were offended because He had wisdom and did miracles. Why were they offended instead of simply being surprised? It takes humility to love Jesus and to receive Him as He presents Himself. I wonder how much I am missing or misunderstanding because I think I already know something about Him. These guys saw the wisdom. They saw the miracles.
