Listening to Yahweh

All the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain surrounded by smoke. When the people saw it they trembled and stood at a distance. “You speak to us, and we will listen,” they said to Moses, “but don’t let God speak to us, or we will die.”

Moses responded to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, so that you will fear Him and will not sin.” And the people remained standing at a distance as Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.

Everyone can lead someone, even if it is to help them find the bathroom when they come to visit. Not everyone is a leader in the typical sense of leading people on a mission or project or job. Implied by this truth is the idea that anyone who is not a leader is a follower. Also implied by this truth is the idea that being a leader doesn’t always include getting a title or a badge.

The Lord has created gifts and callings that cause some people to have clearer information about how to live and what to do. We need teachers and prophets to bring clear words from the King. When we are afraid to be led by the Spirit of the Lord, and prefer a human leader instead, we may be in danger of being misled, though. Adding confirmations and corrections to what we receive directly from the Lord is allowing safety and strength. Preferring to hear human voices to trusting our abilities to hear the Spirit, whether the cause is laziness or fear, is not safe.

Follow Jesus. Follow those He has ordained to leadership, praying over them to be following His leadership. Lead when He places you in leadership, praying that you will do well at following His leadership. Keep those in that order. Be awesome.
