Outside the Law
For although I am free from all people, I have made myself a slave to all, in order to win more people. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win Jews; to those under the law, like one under the law—though I myself am not under the law—to win those under the law. To those who are outside the law, like one outside the law—not being outside God’s law, but under the law of Christ—to win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I may by all means save some.
(1 Corinthians 9:19-22 Holman Christian Standard Bible ©®)
Paul was a member of the party of the Pharisees when he was young. His zeal in life was to hold the nation of Israel and its citizens to account for any failure in keeping the laws Yahweh had given them through Moses. This zeal is what was his motivation in traveling to Damascus in Syria when he met Jesus on the way. He apparently had no greater hope than that Israel would love and obey the law.
The above letter indicates that after Saul became Paul, the Pharisee became a follower of the Spirit instead of an obeyer of the law. If he followed the influence of the Spirit of Life, he would break no law of His God.
Because He is holy, Yahweh invites us to be holy. Because He is perfect, He invites us to be perfect. Being Light, He invites us to be light with Him. Looking to the law to decide if you have avoided failure is like asking a five year old child for directions to Chicago. The Spirit can lead you there or anywhere else step by step. The only advice the child could offer is that you are not there yet.
Be filled with the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. Be awesome!
