Under the Influence

Someone who is not under the influence of the Spirit of God while reading the Scriptures is like a person who walks up to the home of Jesus and His Father, and looks in the huge, low windows to see the furnishings and friends and family inside, but is still outside, not knowing where the Door is.

Someone who is born of God and has met the Spirit, but is not under the influence of the Scriptures is like a person who has found the Door and entered the home of Jesus and His Father, but does not know where anything important is in the house, or how to interact with the other family members, or what the purposes of being in the family might be.

If you have been a believer more than 10 years and have not read the Bible more than once, I suggest that you might be difficult for the Spirit to communicate with. When we are under the influence of both the Book and the Spirit, we are more likely to become profitable servants, knowing the King and His ways and His desires.
