Worthy Judges
Jesus has been counted worthy to judge humans because He was willing to die for us. We have been ordained to judge, too: humans and angels. What qualifies us to begin the work?
An ekklesia was sometimes called together in Greece or Rome to make a judgment in a matter. James 1 of England wanted to rule over Jesus’ people in the place of Jesus, rather than empowering Jesus’ people to rule with Jesus. So that they would not get the idea that they were called to authority and power in Jesus’ Kingdom, James instructed his translators to intentionally mistranslate the word ekklesia in the Scriptures as “church,” a word that means “belonging to the lord” by implication, and which is related to the same root word as “circle” and “circus.”
In Matthew 18:15-17, 1 Corinthians 6:1-5, and Acts 19:38-39, the word ekklesia is used to describe a group of people who have been called together to make a judgement over a situation. We are the people to which the judgments are entrusted. We are His ekklesia. Our character, our values, and our attitudes should align with His Spirit so that we do it with honor and with righteousness.
