Who’s Your Conscience?
Herod’s conscience was John the Baptist. Herodias disliked the influence John had on Herod, so she deceived Herod into having his conscience removed.
We are usually under the influence of one or more people whose opinions about our actions have weight. Sometimes that influence is great enough to make us serve their values instead of our own. If their directions about how to make decisions are rooted in how to please the crowd, they will mislead me. The Holy Spirit works in me to want to and to be able to please Jesus. Depending on who is nearby, that could help or hurt my popularity with the crowd.
The Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus is the perfect conscience: always right, always true, always wanting to make me succeed in what I was born for.
