Less Than Human
If my answer to excuse my failure is ever, “Well, I am only human,” should I feel less than human when I walk righteously? If it is my nature to do stupid things, am I not living up to my real nature when I walk in wisdom? Would such unnatural behavior be failure to be honest to my identity?
Jesus said to the people who gathered to hear what we call the sermon on the mount, “Be perfect, like your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48). In His Kingdom, I become capable of living up to a higher identity: son of Yahweh. My true nature is disappointed when I don’t walk in righteousness. Being honest to my true identity is walking in obedience and righteousness.
