Inspecting the Work
Building with wood, hay, and stubble is a simple task. It doesn’t even cost much. Most peoples on the earth began with that if they decided to stop wandering and to like a certain place and stay. Thatch roofs. Log cabins. That’s what makes people build – wanting to stay.
Building with rocks is much harder. It means the very difficult work of at least moving, if not cutting and then moving, the rocks from where they already exist to the place where I want to stay. Using gold or silver or precious stones is even more costly and time consuming. Then, when I have built with them, I need to protect what I have built.
What I build with regard to the family, the body, the house of Jesus, is either cheap and easy or difficult and costly. The costs include preparation, study, loving others, generosity, reliability, commitment. What are we willing to pay to build a place where Jesus would want to stay?
We are either building or not. We are either using valuable materials or not. Either way, we are working at something. A trial is coming that will expose our work. It will stand or fall.
We will even be tried with our work. It is important. If you are not really conscious of what your building looks like, test it before the fire does.
